Jobless :(
Another change in my life. Left my job. Rather, they let me go. No warning. "Lack of work" Real cool, guys. Thanks.
After I packed up my things and said bye to my best friend there/sealions LP engineer I had a some tacos with Lee, and Farbod, then met up with Stefan for a drink. Watched Tim & Eric Awesome Show with Lee, went to Graveyard, didn't drink, and chatted with Emily, Jenny, and a new friend, Liz.
So far today I've ran 3 miles, updated my resume, updated sealions myspace, began work on my website redesign, ate some cereal, worked on art, chatted on the internet, cleaned up some and made lots of lists. And its only 1:30. Gonna meet with Emily to work on a shoe diptych in a bit, and catch up with Steph after that. I think I might go see "Man on Wire" at some point.
Plans this week:
Continue work on website, go to unemployment office, go to Nashville for Brooke Waggoner's CD Release show for the album I designed on Wednesday. And oh yea, find myself along the way.
If anyone needs a creative, talented, handsome graphic designer please let me know. I think I might hit up some freelance while I'm looking for another job.
Sealions are playing a free show at Wordsmith's Books in Decatur at 8:30pm, Friday night. Joey and I will be playing to electronic beats, you know you want to see it!
Leave me a comment to cheer me up or make me laugh. I have plenty of time to read it right now.

I've often seen and heard about animals that take on similar traits as their owners. I was driving back from lunch today when I witnessed an old man with hip troubles walking his dog who also had hip troubles. It made for a cute, yet sad moment.

Soicy Tender Gentle Bitch
I have tomorrow off work, and I'm super stoked. We're having a party on Saturday.

The following Saturday:

I got really high on a band's tour bus last night. It was a great time. Saturday is color club: Green Menace. So now you and I know, and anyone who wants to wear green can be a part.

Our group photography show "Persona" was a hit! I'm so glad everything went smoothly and that so many people showed up.
One of my favorite things in the whole world is when people from different parts of my life interact. Friends of mine that never met one another. I find it so entertaining and interesting. If I could spend my life introducing people that would be fantastic. There were a few instances where people were reunited by some strange coincidence.
Some familiar faces showed up, and so did a face I hadn't seen in 4 years. I had a perfect time. And it was grey day for color club!
On a down side, my allergies have been terrible for a week and I would like to breath sometime soon. That would be really nice.

Mr. Livejournal Post
I got my prints back yesterday for the "Persona" show and I'm very happy with the results. I can see a lot more detail as opposed to viewing them on a computer screen. Just have to find some frames now. I started this project in November and the show is here! Next Saturday!

I had yesterday off work for Good Friday. And it was. I accomplished more than half the list I made of shit to do. I still have some items to take care of but having an extra day really gave me some much needed time. Last night I got efficiently wasted. Went to Thomas' birthday karaoke party and had an unexpected blast. Group sing-a-long to "This Charming Man" a highlight.
Color Club is now in full effect. Anyone is welcome (no haters please). Both nights have been spoonfuls of fun.

I believe next meeting is purple. Gonna be a riot fo' sho.
Band practice tonight. Our first show with the new lineup is April 26th, at The Star Bar. Super stoked about that.

Gotta work on some freelance, see ya later Mr. Livejournal.

Sometimes I feel a little overwhelmed...
...not only with work, but with emotions. My Dad moved out of the country today, for the 2nd time. It was really great having him here for the past 6 months. I wish we could have hung out more, but he didn't have a car and its hard for me to get out to the burbs sometimes.
He started to get teary-eyed as he left, and the same thing happened to me when I talked to him on the phone today. I'm very close with both my parents and this is a difficult thing for me.
As far as work goes, it's going alright. A bit tiring most times. I've been consumed by freelance projects on the side, and other projects such as a group photo show, and band practice. But, like homework, I've been pretty good at finding distractions, like good 'ol livejournal right here.
Well, I'm gonna get back to it. Gonna keep on keepin' on. I look forward to finishing up stuff and then kicking back and chillin' at the pool. Get hot already!

Going Away
Thursday night I went to long-time friend's going away party. He called me to make sure I was there. We've been friends since we were 14 years old. He always gives me Jaeger shots when he's working at the bar, so this time I bought him one. At one point he was down to his underwear. I hope I can visit him in NY before he decides to move back. Saw an old friend I haven't seen in a few years, she lives in NY as well. She says Atlanta has changed. And I guess it has. Names and faces. New buildings.
Didn't expect to see some other friends that happened to be there. Said hello to them. I think they were a little bit tipsy. They started to dance and I couldn't help but think about how we used to dance, and how she used to do little silly dances for me. And, how we had danced in that very room before. Anyway, I danced a little myself and tried to make the most of it. I had a good time and met some new people as well. I think I really did have fun, rather than trying to have fun.
But the next day emotions and memories sank in as they always seem to do lately. When I woke up it was raining. Far too little sleep, I thought. But atleast its Friday, I thought. The New Year is coming up in a few days and I'm looking forward to it. Not just the day, but the year. I have a ton of ideas and projects, as well as vacation plans, and who else knows what. I guess sometimes it nice to not know what lies ahead. Sometimes I feel like I'm too old for unexpected adventures, but that's not the case. Or atleast, I have to start to think that way.
So, back to the morning. I went into the bathroom, and out of nowhere there was a thunderous crash. Thunder, actually. And the lighting came right with it, what seemed like directly outside the window. No other thunder or lightning, or warning. No thunder or lightning afterward. Just that once. It startled me and made think someone was trying to tell me something. God, or nature, or I don't know. Trying to shake me out of this mold. This funk. It's hard, you know?

On the way to work this morning there was a sign that read "Shoulder Work Ahead". I immediately envisioned a man getting surgery on his shoulder in the middle of the highway. Then I thought..I wonder what kind of shoulder work he's having done, they don't look that bad. Maybe some muscle implants, or maybe he's getting wings, but that would probably involve back surgery as well. (and a red bull. lame)
Anyway, turns out there was just a few orange cones on the side of the road, in the shoulder. How boring.

Yesterday I was transported to another time.
1992. Last night I saw The Lemonheads and Soul Asylum in Woodruff Park. It was incredible. "Its a Shame About Ray" is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time and The Lemonheads played the majority of songs from it. I remember sitting in my room holding the blurry CD artwork in my hands listening to that record for the first time. There were others there that recall that folky-alternative 90s rock period and loved it as much as I did, you could tell who they were and I share a bond with those strangers that few understand. In the same way that my Grandfather listens to the records of the 40s, his youth, I will always hold a special place for early 90s "alternative" rock. Soul Asylum did not disappoint either. I owned the tape version of "Grave Dancer's Union" and anticipated them playing my favorite track from that record, "Without a Trace". They played that song, as well as "Somebody to Shove" and "Black Gold". The crowd of mostly 30-somethings or older swayed and jumped and danced to the hits from almost 15 years ago. An older couple blazed a joint next to me, and wind blew in through the buildings. It was something special that took me back to a time when everything was easy for me.

Tattoos
Since I started working at my full time design job, I've been thinking about what to spend my hard earned money on, besides bills and needs and whatnot. Some things I'd like to save for and I've thought about that a lot too. But I've also been thinking about fun things I want to buy. A nice TV, maybe some clothes, a microwave. Some gifts for Shannon. And another tattoo. And I think I've decided on a style. Art Nouveau.
I got inked on my 25th birthday with artwork by Koloman Moser, an Austrian Graphic Artist. So in fitting with my artsy left arm, I'm going to get something artsy on my right as well. I wanted to get zombies but am now deciding against it. Atleast for now.

Anyway, I've been looking at the nouveau artist, Alfons Mucha. I really dig his style.

And here's an example of a tattoo translating his work onto skin. Not to mention I love bold lines and geometric patterns.

Now that's sexy. I was thinking I might choose some art and modify it myself. But I'm exciting, because when it takes me a long time to decide on something and I finally do, I'm set. And the circle complements my other arm. sexy.
Even the newest Darkest Hour album displays the style.

Originally I wanted an Escher tattoo.

Well, I've wasted enough time at work for awhile.
Go see the Sealions tonight.

And August 10th.

More of my Cartoony Designs
First up is my rejected skateboard eraser design that I loved. I mean, come on, my retarded elephant is great. They said it looked "jarbled" whatever that means. Well, I was determined to get an elephant on there for shannon and her love of elephants, so I designed a more appropriate elephant skateboarding. yeaaah. The eraser is kinda small, only about 1.5 inches tall but still deserves a kick ass design.
I also designed some flyers for our upcoming shows in july. Threw in some gradient. wha? yeh i did it. why does 4pm until 5:30pm at work last an eternity? Atleast I get to draw all day.

Also, "Ride it" is a reference that Mr. Chris Reath will surely enjoy. Ha.
Shannon got free passes to "Superbad" next monday and I'm super stoked. I don't think I could make it til August without seeing it.

My New Job
I've been putting my design skills to use at my new job at Peachtree Playthings, a toy company. I'm doing package design and trying to get used to the hours and the traffic. So far, I've been designing mostly pencil wraps, but also a zip cord flyer and skateboard erasers. I had fun designing the boy's gross pencils. Boogers, eyeballs, bugs, and stitches. Nice.
Shannon made me breakfast this morning. It was wonderful. Now, I work for the weekend. Like the song. My stomach has been in knots ever since I started. Hopefully that will pass. Everyone I work with is friendly and of course I am the resident Star Wars nerd.
Here's what some of my pencil wraps look like.

Movies
So I've kept this kinda movie journal for over 11 years now. Basically is just consists of the movie stubs from every movie I see in theaters. I doesn't include all the free screenings that I've seen. But for the most part, I've seen 367 movies at the theater in the last 11 years. 47 of them with Shannon. Some years I see more than others. I have some movie stubs that date back to 1993, starting with Jurassic Park. 12 Star Wars stubs, including the re-release of the original films. 5 stubs from Episode I. No wonder George Lucas is so rich. I wish they would re-re-release the Indian Jones trilogy in the theater. I'll be adding to the list with 28 Weeks Later. No. 368 and counting.
I've also saved every concert ticket, but that's not quite as accurate because not every show comes with a stub. I've had a lot of stamps on my hand though, and X's. I know last time we took a count, we've actually played at over 50 different venues since '96. We're playing on Wednesday at the Drunken Unicorn, at 11pm. Ladytron is doing a DJ set next door at MJQ that night as well. Then Saturday we're playing at the 11:11 Teahouse with our friends, Knife Hits, and The Preakness. Another band to be announced. That starts around 9, and its all about summer leisure wear. So sport those short shorts!
Tomorrow morning is graduation ceremony. Haven't had one of those since '99 for high school. Well, this is just a nostalgic entry. For the record, I've lived at 8 places since I started college. Coming on being vegetarian for 5 years. Running my 3rd peachtree roadrace on July 4th. I do like stats, I will say that. Numbers. Archiving minutia.

Graduated.
So I'm all done with college. I now have a BFA in Graphic Design. I've been scoopin' the dots and looking for a job. I don't really know what to do with myself. I've been watching the Indiana Jones trilogy over the past few days. He's got a pretty cool job. If anyone hasn't seen my website its at jtrav.net.

It feels weird to be done.
Also been working on the new sealions website. sealionsmusic.com. We have some shows lined up. One next wednesday, the 16th at the drunken unicorn. And I believe Ladytron will be DJ'ing that night so everyone should come out for that! Also, Saturday, May 19th at 11:11 Teahouse with our close friends Epocha and Knife Hits. The Preakness will headline. It's a show to celebrate the summer so wear your best summer leisure wear! School's out for summer. School's out for ever.
Berly did a photoshoot with us. Check out one of them.
